It's your life, no one else's.
Despite this obvious truth, it is all too easy to trust the (well intentioned) advice from friends and family.
Consider their motivation: they want the 'best' for you, but typically they will err on the side of caution.
Given the choice between staying safe and risking loss to pursue a dream, they will often advise on the former. They know the results, safety is guaranteed, your career will progress and your life will be normal. The latter has a lot of potential downsides - unemployment, loss of money, loss of status, failure etc.
Thus if you listen to them, you will be given more conservative advice. Whilst this needs to be considered, just be aware that it is conservative. But more importantly, if you want to change your life to pursue your dreams, you can't do that without change and thus without risk.
Yes it is safer to stay, but ultimately it is safer to LIVE a life you want to - you are not getting out of it alive anyway!
