I Am Fine

Mental illness is invisible. That means that the signs and symptoms are often only known to the person suffering from it.

This piece is designed to show how the words 'I am fine' can hide a deeper truth that most people are not aware of.

The words, ''I am fine' hides the struggle, pain, and functional deficiencies from being exposed. It is a way to keep ourselves safe from judgement. Unfortunately it also limits a real discussion of mental illness and therefore stigma reduction.

My hope is that this piece will inspire conversations , talking points and stigma reduction.

About:
This is a small reminder of your journey, how far you have come and what you have survived.

The semicolon symbolises survival. A continuation of your story beyond the clutches of suicide and self harm.

A semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to.

The author is you and the sentence is your life.

When stressed, I will draw like this.

No plan or goal, just an expression of my mood. I will go over each section repeatedly, adding accents, depth, and boldness where I feel appropriate.

This is the result: chaotic uniformity: my inner world.
